PITTSBURGH (AP) — The momentary bliss-fueled blackouts that used to consume T.J. Watt after every big play still come. So maybe it's best to let others — like older brother J.J. Watt — serve as his hype men. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin called Watt “the best defensive player on the planet” on Tuesday. Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick — himself a three-time All-Pro — laughed when asked if he took Tomlin's praise of Watt personally. “I just want to continue to be the best player I can be for myself and for this team.”___

___The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers haven't let last season's postseason disappointment become a hangover in 2023. Both teams head into Sunday's rematch of last season's NFC title game with a chance to turn those recent failures into success. The Eagles are the fourth team in NFL history to win at least 10 of their first 11 games in back-to-back seasons. The Eagles and 49ers are currently the top two seeds in the NFC, setting the stage for a rare possible NFC title game rematch. It has happened five times in the AFC, including last season when the Chiefs hosted the Bengals for a second straight season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers fired embattled offensive coordinator Matt Canada on Tuesday, two-plus years into a tenure in which the team struggled to generate points and yards with regularity. The Steelers (6-4) have remained in playoff contention in spite of an offense that ranks 28th in yards and points. The emergence of the run game last winter fueled a 7-2 push that helped Canada keep his job. But with Pickett seeming to regress and options becoming increasingly limited, Tomlin decided there was only one big move left.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Kenny Pickett threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Diontae Johnson with 4:02 remaining and the Pittsburgh Steelers slipped past the Tennessee Titans 20-16 on Thursday. Tennessee rookie quarterback Will Levis played well in his second NFL start but couldn't match the electricity of his first, a four-touchdown masterpiece against Atlanta. The Titans said Burks had full movement in all his extremities, it was reported on the Amazon TV broadcast. The Titans responded to take a 13-10 halftime lead behind some poised play by Levis and Derrick Henry's unique brand of fury. Inside linebacker Cole Holcomb was carted off in the first quarter with what appeared to be a serious left knee injury.

Cleveland allowed an opponent to score two defensive touchdowns for the first time since Pittsburgh did it on Oct. 16, 1983. The Browns played most of the final three quarters without Chubb, who was carted off the field with what appeared to be his second major left knee injury. Chubb took a handoff from Watson early in the second quarter and reached the Pittsburgh 3 when Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick dove at Chubb's legs.
